Paul's LARP Zone
September 2025
ANOTHER DELIGHTFUL OPPORTUNITY to bask in Paul's fiery enthusiasm for his LARP group! Listening to his tales, we couldn't help but feel the same cozy vibes as we do when we kick off our shoes at home. It's his happy place where he can truly be himself. Home sweet LARP! Sounds like a great place to be!

Paul kicked things off with a tale about joining the Trinity, a big surprise he didn't see coming. He was almost in a year ago but took a detour. Now, he's in, and it feels like destiny! Curious about the Trinity? Well, it’s a mystical trio: the Lumatis (the sun) as the mother, Luna (the moon) as the daughter, and Gaia as the earth. On the induction night, Paul had his initiation into the Trinity and Luna. A church even played a part in this LARP saga! He bravely vowed to uphold the Trinity's rules, scrolls and all. Oh, and did you know he's now a faction member and a "pup of Hrogn"? This means more LARP adventures await, complete with prayer power and resurrection—once he racks up 880 experience points, that is. His troll character needs a whopping 1800 points, so he's got his work cut out for him!

Last week, Paul rocked the NPC shift as a bonkers bishop with a "Xilften" (or "Netflix" backwards) hat. He got into character by finding a walking stick in the woods and babbled his way into creative madness, claiming there was evil afoot. With no weapons, he was all harmless charm, trying to wiggle his way into town.

His LARP passion even fuels his love for 3D printing! With his Nomis 3D printer, he's conjuring up all sorts of magical items for his group. One pic shows off his latest creation—talk about bringing fantasy to life!

Paul wrapped up with some thrilling news: he's off to the Oxford Renaissance Festival! It's the ultimate LARP extravaganza with fight pits, vendors, jousting, and even birds of prey. He'll be there all weekend, working the fight pit and inviting folks to join the fun. It's the highlight of the year, and almost the whole gang is going. They're heading up the night before to set up at the crack of dawn.
Paul left buzzing about his prep plans for the epic adventure ahead!

Paul's LARP Zone
August 2025
I had the delightful chance to hear Paul spin some epic tales about his LARP group, a crew he feels deeply tied to! He kicked things off with the juicy tidbit of being hired by Sir Chayse as a summoner for a grand annual bash. His mission? Conjure up beasts for players to battle, like a devil, a demon, and some undead baddies! Cue the summoning and watch as the townsfolk bring the smackdown!

Every year, folks aspiring to be Regents—the town's top dog—duke it out. The action kicks off at 7 PM and rolls on until all the banners are snatched up. This time around, a whopping five contenders threw their hats in the ring. Each Regent's got a banner, backed by a mini-squad on a quest to snag the most banners, including their own and those hidden in the night across a sprawling 40-acre farm. Simple? Not even close! Picture this: creeping around under the cover of darkness, flashlight in hand, battling other teams for victory! It's a true test of grit, strategy, and teamwork!
The real challenge? Keeping your whereabouts top-secret amidst the light and noise! Paul recounted that after a few hours, he had to bow out due to heat exhaustion and a twisted ankle. Thankfully, his comrades swooped in, helping him to the tavern, cooling him down with some water while jokingly declaring, "The troll’s been watered!" With a "keep an eye" and "stay put," they pressed on as Paul recovered over three hours, enjoying the spectacle of his pals duking it out in the shadows.

Paul's character took this as a setback but remains upbeat, knowing he'll get another shot. He proudly holds his title as "Beast the Protector," loyal to his crew.
The mission? Grab those banners! Sir Chayse and his squad snagged 11 out of 12, with the final one surfacing at sunrise!

Check them out on Facebook!
The group proudly announced their congratulations of their Facebook page:
"We extend our warmest congratulations to Sir Chayse on completing the Regency, earning the title of Chayse the Ironhand. We now welcome Orik Brokkson as our new Regent, acknowledging his dedication and rise to Thane of Hrogn, serving the Jarl, and joining the Trinity as High Priest Orik, embodying the Shield of Lumatis. This weekend, join us for a celebratory shindig, bringing baked goodies shaped like Orik's hammer! We can't wait to see your creative treats and toast our Season 12 Regent! With love, your Webmistress, -Lady Raihne"

Though Sir Chayse clinches the victory, the saga continues. Intrigued by this LARP escapade? Dive into their Facebook group or their website to find out more!
On top of all this fun! There is also campfire improv with the word “ALE”! Paul nailed it on his turn, wrapping up with, “If you’re drinking the ale, you’re not a fail!”

July 2025

Paul hit the pause button this month, but fear not—he'll be back soon to dazzle us with his LIVE ACTION ROLE PLAY escapades! It’s his magical getaway where he ditches daily stresses and steps into his true heroic persona!

LARP
Paul was thrilled to share an update about his LARP group, mentioning that it restarted two weeks ago. He expressed a sense of happiness and sense of family, stating he “needed it.” On opening day, approximately 30 people attended, and he emphasized that the group has been evolving over the past 12 years, noting its uniqueness and that “the entirety of LARP was created by Magnamus.”
During our conversation, Paul highlighted that anyone is welcome to join, with the first visit being free and an invitation to “come as you are.” He described the group as very welcoming. When I asked for advice for newcomers, he shared his insights:
-
People can “watch, learn, and enjoy the chaos,” and if they wish, they can “join in the fun.”
-
Newcomers can “get their feet wet, dip their toe in, or dive right in.”
-
He recommended avoiding logos and suggested wearing black if someone doesn’t have a costume.
Paul has been part of the group for three years, portraying the “Dim Witted Troll,” whose character has become more foolish, which he sees as an advantage. He explained that others “can’t use fear or persuasion as his character is too dumb,” making it ineffective. Paul ensures he stays “90% in character the whole time.”
With a sense of pride, he shared that he has taken on a new role on the council, assisting Magnamus in the gatehouse in a non-playing capacity. His responsibilities include preparing characters and distributing pouches containing character sheets with their abilities and items for role-playing. The following week, the role-play adapts based on events from the previous week. He was delighted to mention that “during break time,” he can participate as well.
Paul also expressed pride at being noticed by Hrogn and accepted the “honor” of becoming a pup of Hrogn when he was approached by “Lady Mine.” To help me understand better, he shared a video posted in the Facebook group, The Mixed Medieval Arts (The MMA).
Paul plans to continue sharing his passion for the group and has promised to provide more insights into the weaponry and magic involved.
Paul is excited for the Oxford Renfair that takes place in September.

LARP
Live Action Role Play

Meet Paul, the king of costume and creator of chaos! He was bursting with pride as he shared me with tales of his LARP (Live Action Role Play) adventures. That's right, folks—Paul's been a Dungeons and Dragons devotee for three magical years! I had to ask a few questions to catch up on his mystical musings.
Every Saturday, from noon to the stroke of midnight, this crew gathers in the enchanted lands of Watford, with anywhere from 15 to 45 fantasy fanatics. It's a full-blown, costume-clad, don't-you-dare-break-character extravaganza. Paul proudly plays a
“Dim-witted Troll," a role he crafted with thrift store treasures. His character might be “dim-witted” but Paul's enthusiasm is anything but!
He also shared tales of "Tiberius," a tavern keeper who moonlights as "Arturo" when the mood strikes. Curious adventurers can join the fun through their Facebook group, MMA (Mixed Medieval Arts), where they post epic videos and snapshots of their quests.
Paul ended our chat with a flourish, showing off some mind-blowing pictures and bragging about his appearance at the Pop Culture Show, where they made paper. Paul's passion for fantasy is as vibrant as his costumes!
